Comment to aphorism 2
Mahamudra as a form of yoga signifies the methodical development of cosmic consciousness, which exists in embryonic form within man. The usual methods of consciousness - the consciousness of the "knower" - refer to the states of daily consciousness after its purification. In this case, it is self-evident that these methods relate to the following: relationships to reality or to truth. Normally, the processes of conscious-ness relate only to relationships with transient reality because the average person has no real interest in true reality.
However, the processes of consciousness toward transient reality do not lead to positive insights. They merely correspond to the passages in samsara, which are expressed in experiences, hopes, and disappointments, but not in conclusions drawn from objective observation.
The prerequisite for intellectual yoga is the liberation of consciousness from the natural events of life. This places man, on the level of his consciousness, in the realm where the reason of philosophers operates. Since the detachment of consciousness relates not to the relationship with one's own body and being, but to the external world, the philosophical conclusions of such a person are objective.
Only when they detach themselves from their body and their conscious-ness do they fall into delusion. When they detach themselves from the external world and practice the presence of their body and their being in their own consciousness, they think rationally and arrive at genuine philosophical conclusions. Those who wish to practice yoga should be careful not to detach themselves from their being and their consciousness, but from the world. Otherwise, they would lose their mind and fall into delusion, incapable of accomplishing anything good on this path.
